How one architecture student found her dream job building imaginary worlds?

For Camilla Pizarro, making movies wasn't always a career she saw herself in. But to date, she has earned a reputation as a highly regarded art director, set designer, and production designer for dozens of television shows, commercials, and AAA feature films viewed by millions around the globe. How exactly did that happen?

"It started after I found an internship at a set design company called Folguedo," Pizarro recalls. The position started just before she graduated with an Architecture degree in 2014. "I fell in love with the experience, I knew I needed to try and find my way into the entertainment industry."

After completing her internship, Camilla got her first job as an assistant art director and set designer for the Chinese feature film Line Walker in 2016. Since the film would be shot in her hometown of Rio de Janeiro, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to launch her professional career in the movie industry. From there, she was blessed with the opportunity to continue working in Brazil on a variety of projects, from feature films to television programming. Her work on the Brazilian feature film O Paciente helped the picture earn a nomination for best Production Design on the "18th Grande Premio de Cinema Brasileiro."

While building her resume in Brazil, she never lost sight of her true goal: get to LA. In 2018, she took the leap, and has grown tremendously personally, and professionally.

"I learned a lot about myself through the process of getting to Hollywood," Pizarro says. "It's been a path of major self-discovery, and I'm learning how to live life in the present and how to free my mind from old patterns and grow as an artist."

Since arriving in 2018, she's worked on numerous types of projects. As the Production Designer for Helen, her worked helped the film win the South Film and Arts Academy Festival for best Art Direction and Best Comedy Short Film. More recently, she was given the opportunity to work alongside Stefania Cella, the Production Designer for the highly-anticipated next chapter of the MCU, Morbius. She's worked on Indie feature films like The Last Manhunt, executive produced by Jason Momoa and We Broke Up directed by Jeff Rosenberg, with William Jackson Harper (The Good Place), as well as a commercial for Vogue, starring Kendall Jenner.

Additionally, she was a Prop Assistant for Minha Mae é Uma Peça, which was partially filmed in LA and was the highest grossing movie ever released in Brazil.

"I have had amazing experiences here, things that I had only dreamed of," Pizarro says. "I've met people that have worked on my favorite TV Shows, talked to them about the industry, and how they got to where they are today. Meeting mentors like this has energized me to keep pursuing my dreams and work hard towards my goals as a designer."

Pizarro holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the Universidade Federal Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro. She also earned an Entertainment Studies certificate from UCLA Extension.
