The Demand for Turquoise

As we all know, Turquoise is a semi-precious stone that makes a big impact in the world of fashion past and present. People definitely attracted to it for its stories and legend. A common belief shared many of these civilizations held that Turquoise possessed certain precautionary qualities, it was thought to change color with the wearer's health and protect him or her from untoward forces. One of the prominent Ancient Egyptian figures where turquoise gemstones were recovered was from Tutankhamun's tomb, the Pharaoh's iconic burial mask which was liberally inlaid with the stone. It also adorned rings and great necklaces. As of the present, many of the Hollywood actors are using this beautiful and versatile gemstone.

Actors are wearing and expose their elegant piece of turquoise jewelry in the academy award. Though, considered semi-precious stone, in the recent years turquoise, become increasingly costly and rare. As a result, its cost to jewellers has soared, the price has gone up depending on the size of the stone.

What is the reason behind the change?

Mine Closures

A few of the mines are closing or are closed. It becomes difficult to purchase high-quality natural stone compared to 1960s and 1970s. Turquoise from Sleeping Beauty mine in Arizona- the most expensive produced in the US and the world's most abundant source – in the present can sell wholesale for as less as $100 a strand, but a 14mm perfect round can color-single strand could reach a wholesale price of $10,000.

The bad news, the mine closed in August 2012, and just focus solely on copper mining, a more profitable undertake because of the metals' extensive industrial uses. This semi-precious stone is produced as a secondary product/byproduct of copper.

Many jewellers were saddened by the closure, and the closure of Sleeping Beauty's turquoise operation has driven up the demand. Another mine is the Copper Queen mine which produced Bisbee Blue Turquoise from Bisbee, Arizona, closed its turquoise mining operations. Morenci mine in Greenlee County, Arizona, though still active focuses on copper rather than turquoise.

Red Carpet Glamour

Another reason for the increase in the price of the gemstones is the popular use in the Red carpet. Increasing number of actresses glamorized their look with the versatile beauty of Turquoise pair it with their elegant and sexy wardrobes. The beautiful and vibrant color of turquoise attracts actors and actresses around the globe to use and purchase such a rare stone.

Other Fashions

Such rise in the use of pink gold, turquoise becomes more apparent and attention caller. Though you can work turquoise with all types of gems and metals, however, pink gold is warm therefore adding turquoise would make the piece of jewelry so visible.

Though each individual requires a piece of beauty of their desire and use, either for fashion or protection, ultimately, the startling summer blue color of this semi-precious stone may simply be the key to its popularity. Perhaps the oldest stone in man's history; strong and opaque, yet comforting to the touch, soft to the eyes, as if sculpted from sky-blue heaven and fall to earth for people to see.
